Resolution #8Socialize; catch up with old friends, make new friends. Be less dependent on existing social circle

Done and done! Let's recap...

Sipping delectable dessert wine at quaint french cafe Le Bistrot du Sommelier along Armenian Street followed by potent cocktails at The Library x V1/K/friendslong overdue supper at Jalan Kayu + talking for hours (God I've missed J.LML); stuffing our faces at Sun with Moon x the makeupgroup; gorging on yummy tapas and downing inappropriately-named (I thought H was the most uncommon name in the world, I couldn't have been more wrong) mojitoesque drinks  at Bodega y Tapas x the COT; sumptuous yumcha x N/P/M at Lei Garden and dinner with IJ girls M/J/J this Wednesday!

Hitting the Andy Warhol-Studio 54 theme party at The Art Bar/Butter Factory x the girlz #vicanda in full-on glam mode - think Bianca Jagger in her heyday - vintage Frank Usher Grecian goddess gown (from my 21st), vintage gold belt & clutch, brown suede heels with gold straps. Glowing skin, smoky gold/bronze eyeshadow, cat eyeliner, red lips and retro curls pinned up on my right/cascading down my left. Even the unexpected presence of the Irish couldn't bring me down.

I think the dark clouds are finally passing.

It's only January and already I've managed to catch up with various social circles absent in 2013. This year has gotten off to a good start. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

I should add #15: Try new things to my list of resolutions; too easy to get stuck in a Club St/Kyo/life in general rut... Loved the impromptu catchup x SMc at Jigger & Pony last night. Am usually so harried rushing from one social event to another that it felt thoroughly refreshing to sit at a bar and chat over cocktails (sans time constraint)

Plus I want to check out these places (additions anticipated):
House of Dandy
The Spiffy Dapper
Tippling Club
The Secret Mermaid

Bitters & Love
Oxwell & Co
The Black Swan/The Powder Room

Maison Ikkoku
The Horse's Mouth
Oh, I've just booked my ticket to Laneway this Saturday - Whoop whoop to losing my music festival virginity! Hmm, I wonder what to wear...

wed - tequila night
in the midst of drowning our sorrows, lou and i nearly finished a bottle of tequila between us. inititally, i drew lines on my cardboard drawer (to mark the number of shots we'd consumed) with a marker but the tequila took over... all i can say is, i lost count at #4.

thurs - hangover
i woke up with the worst headache known to mankind. everything hurt. it hurt to think, let alone move. i kept chanting inwardly: don't think. just close your eyes and try to fall sleep. after throwing up twice, i swore never to touch tequila or lemon ever again. okay, at least for a month. as i half-knelt/doubled over the toilet seat, a little voice in my head taunted me, asking if the pain was worth the pleasure. trust me, it SO wasn't.

i actually took an entire day to recover, i know, i'm surprised myself. i lay in bed all day like some sick puppy, not moving or thinking. it was harder than you'd imagine.

fri - efteling theme park (flash, emmi, sarah)
rollercoasters, cotton candy, an unlimited amount of screaming, my clothes getting soaked - yup, my kinda PG fun in the sun.

sat - singel 404 + ribs at that restaurant i don't know the name of (lou & hk girls)
offical good food day. that's all i can say... and that i was wearing a supermini dress. i swear some guys walking past called out "lend her some money". if they were trying to be creative/funny, i think they meant i couldn't afford a longer dress. ahh whatevs.

sun - picnic at a park, canal biking, the trut (alternative gay bar)
i woke up early to make my famous garlic prawn pasta and fruit crepes, lou had a big bag full of goodies. together we set off to do as the dutch do; to lunch in style, drifting along a canal in a cute little boat. along the way, we got distracted by a festival of sorts, it looked so lively and lovely that we promptly got off (the tram) and joined in. sitting in a shade, nibbling strawberries dipped in maple syrup and sipping wine, watching little boats go by - it was the perfect way to spend a sunday...

for the next two hours, we proceeded to get lost trying to find the canal bike-renting place then we almost got ourselves killed, in our failed attempts at steering it. picture this: us on the wrong side of the canal, floating in the path of a MASSIVE canal cruise charging at us (that's a bit of an overstatement), lou laughing his head off at god knows what and me screaming like a raving lunatic. it was singlehandedly the most embarrassing thing to happen this year. people seated at cafes along the canal were watching, and undoubtedly laughing. not to mention, we also got stuck - sideways - in a canal.

p/s: i don't even know how many floating houses we banged into. sorry!

we had famous dutch pancakes at the pancake bakery. sad to say, my mexican tasted more like sweet and sour chicken. blah.

the trut was an eye opener; so many beautiful men, all gay. le sigh. i've never felt so overdressed and ... straight in my life. i'm saying that like it's a bad thing. jesus. i wore my mum's vintage cape with gold trim, it was so so gorgeous, i received compliments from just about everyone *beams* fyi, i've never had to wait in line (so damn long) to enter a bar before and the place is too underground - we almost couldn't didn't find it.

+ the crowd is cute, - the toilets are vile. if i wasn't drunk, i don't think i would've dreamed of stepping into their loos, or touching the toilet seat without disinfecting it first. lou and i managed to befriend the very blond (nick-carter-when-he-was-cute-lookalike/czech) j&j (flicky blond fringe/swede) and 2 random guys on bikes outside the trut, post-closing time. our plan was to continue partying hearty with our newfound strangers but it was a sunday and frankly, amsterdam is dead on a sunday. we had no choice but to bid adieu and cab home.

alas! on our week in amsterdam, we meet some genuinely cool people. where was this social life 6 months ago?

mon - picking up of MVV + laserguns
by the time i picked up my MVV (residence permit), i was informed it would be valid for, all of 2 days. whoopee. the lady gave me a handbook on my MVV, i promptly threw it in the bin on my way out. laser gunning was a blast; i felt like a kid again, screaming my brains out, just because. pity i wasn't feeling well, in fact all the physical activity made me feel worse. it made for great facebook photos though.

tues - day at the beach
i cancelled on flash in lieu of staying at home to recuperate. good call. when he told me he brought champagne, i died a little inside.

wed - packing/mint party
yawn. three little piggies walked all the way home. bonus: watching F (who has 'it's britney bitch' as his ringtone) dancing his ass off onstage and gyrating up to some guy. classic. always fun to witness teachers gone wild.

thurs - spent the day with anne (bakery/westerpark) + bbq
the bakery was adorable, we ordered an assortment of pastries on a tray and sat in the backyard to bask in the sunshine. i've learnt: when the sun comes out, so do the dutch. strawberry cake, brownies, a scone, lemon cake, fresh cream, a bonbon and little chocolate drops. divine.

we walked to westerpark (a recommendation by one of the guys on a bike) and parked our bums on a bridge (i don't know what else to call it) with our feet dangling over a pond. we sat and talked for hours, before moving to a huge padded swing in front of a cafe/restaurant, sipping lemonades. i was so brown from all the sun exposure; though my tanlines promptly stopped mid-thigh, at the hem of my minidress, which was a little weird.

lastly, we went to fullup's bbq. here's what i've discovered, the fundamental difference between asians and europeans is: at an asian bbq, we eat until the food runs out, and there are ALWAYS second, third and fourth helpings, if not more. at a european bbq, people hardly eat at all, in fact talking/drinking seems to take precedence. i was stunned speechless. there i was, stuffing my face with salmon and spicy chicken wings and everyone else had already moved onto dessert.

fri - sex and the city
seasons 1 to 5 never aired in sg, so this is officially my first time watching SATC and i must say, i'm lovin' it.

sat - packing/dinner with lou
i lured lou out with the tempting offer of dinner at one of our fav restaurants - on me. i had the salmon and chips with garlic sauce, while he had turkey noodles in thai-style curry. oh, we had the saddest farewell, both of us walked away with tears in our eyes. i'm gonna miss him so much.

sun - packing
more packing; deciding what stays and what goes. always tough for me, what with my karang-guni tendencies. more SATC. i've decided, i'm a cross between carrie and charlotte. i even had my own mr BIG plus i'm interested in journalism, talk about living parallel lives (mine is still missing the fabulous party invites, lunches/brunches and sextalk with girlfriends + designer shoes) someday...

mon - leaving
i would love to see van gogh + stop by wagamamas to say hello/goodbye to j&j + visit vondelpark (it's all in the vicinity) and maybe make a final trip down to singel 404, if i can find my way there without getting lost. we'll see. their iced coffee is fantastic, def worth getting lost over.

do what you have to do.

*edit
I know I can’t be with you
I do what I have to do
And I have the sense to recognize but
I don’t know how to let you go

i've been practically hermit-like in my stayathome stance (under the guise of quality family bonding) for the past 2.5-3 weeks [evidence of this provided by my own MOTHER's remarks (to my friends at my dinner party) on how i'd been at home almost every single day since my return].

happy to languish in the bliss of going to bed/waking up/doing whatever, whenever i please and not having to shoulder the weight of dealing with... society, until a not-so-gentle reminder from gen hits me like a ton of bricks; at the end of the month i'll be leaving AGAIN! so it's 'bout damn time i awaken from my deep/lazy summer slumber and re-immerse myself in society slash orchard road, regardless of how much i occasionally despise/avoid certain members of... society. (predominantly male, in case you were wondering. on second thought, it's a tie on the hate-count between both sexes.)

notice my use of the word 'occasionally', *shrugs* it's not like i duck under the carseat whenever mum drives past certain houses in the estate. oops, wait, wasn't that just last week... ?

doctor/dentist appointments, CT scans, lasik surgery/recovery aside, i'm ready and raring to go! calling up old friends for lunches and dinners and suppers and drinks. you name it... it's on 'the list'.

plans, puh-plans plans plans.

monday - dinner with jobi & manda 7pm, TCC or coffee club? (can't remember which one) back to jobi's for an impromptu playdate with the terrifyingly hyper dino. small dogs scare me. fur-real. status: oh how i've missed (insert: bitchy) singaporean girltalk.

*outfit: cream tailored vest, topshop. (free!) long/thin white tank, warehouse. black high-waisted shorts, topshop. black mini-gladiators with gold studs. red fringe slingbag, H&M.

fyi: my singlish has made a full-on comeback.

tuesday - couch potato tendencies take over. status: grey's anatomy season 1 reruns on star world rock my socks.

wednesday - lunch/voxpop with jacky in town, 1236pm. dinner with gen at holland v, 6pm. status: singapore is dangerously short of interesting people. seriously, seriously!

*outfit: ribbed white tank, esprit. brown elastic waist double-buckle belt. multicoloured floor length indian skirt. chocolate strappy leather heels, zara. big brown bag (BBB), charles & keith.

thursday - lunch with claire at jalan kayu, 1pm. status: raincheck, lunch next wed with claire & ms anne.

friday - lunch/shopping with nat, dinner with gen & josh 7pm, drinks afterward - pp to join us. status: done and done.

*outfit: brown vintage dress with pleat detail + gold sash. lime & gold wedges, (i forgot the name of the shop) BBB.

saturday - brunch with jon at cartel, 11am. status: i am so NOT a morning person. never will be.

*outfit: essential white summer dress, topshop. big blue wooden beads, topshop. black flip flops. BBB.

sunday - nothing planned so far.

people on the have-yet-to-meet list:
makeupgroup - pauline/cindy, quek/shanee, andrea, mel, jess, desmond, jpoh, vishal, lyn/ats people, topshop - licco/car/jada, sherl? andrew?

xoxo

you know you love me.

cyborg #2046 version vic.

busy busy busy. this week's been a crazy hectic mess;

sun
afternoon/night - trend research for mini mag/monday's pitch & crit

mon
morning - pitch & crit(ique of concept)

tues
morning/afternoon - journalism tutorials

evening - buying/"loaning" 150 pounds worth of clothes/shoes/accessories for shoot

night - explaining concept to photographer + model, making to-do-lists, shoot prep

wed
morning - my shoot

afternoon - A's test shoot/shoot prep

evening/night - L's shoot prep

thurs
morning - L's shoot (yours truly was le model. i had to get into character for her ultra-futuristic concept; think jet black razor sharp bob, thick black eyeliner, fake sweeping lashes, pale skin, black lips. i'd like to call it: cyborg #2046 version vic.)

afternoon/evening - A's shoot (her models cancelled so i had to step in as resident model for the day. eek! hers was pretty-pretty girly and romantic-y. all soft waves and natural makeup.)

so far, no time to eat a proper cooked meal, been feasting on M&S dark choc digestives (i've gotten through one pack already and it's only been 2 days since i bought it). haven't been able to reply emails or update my beloved blog, or facebook, to say the least *the look*

it's been utter chaos, unfortunately i foresee more to come in the following week, given that our deadline has now been moved forward a day.

damn you ...

teacher.. people!

RARR.

victoria has happily reverted to basking in the sunlight; wearing flimsy sundresses and flipflops, as promised.

updates for the week

monday no sleep. went for dental. met up with jacky for supper at jalan kayu. he drove! love it *grin* we went back to the same place for supper, twice! hopefully *fingers crossed* under the guise of my fav men's shirt, i managed to remain relatively inconspicuous the second time round. the same couldn't be said for him with his distinctive polka dotted AA hoodie. it was a night of long overdue revelations and truth.

tuesday went to town to meet car. two girls got their mother to chase after me (while walking to the TS escalator) and ask where my sundress was from *laughs* cute. i saw my babylamb! i (predictably) shrieked the heavens down; people actually backed off and left a circle of empty space around us :) car bought the topshop white bikini with fluorescent orange hearts for me!! her new boy works at the peppermint club (st james) hence the best spot was reserved for us; we sat on swings facing each other. very secluded, hidden away from the public eye - just what i needed. free tacos/wedges/chicken wings/drinks inclusive. *thumbs up* i'm liking him already *grin* outfit: grey/white floral tent-dress, denim hotshorts, silver thongs, mauve headscarf.

wednesday did an all nighter, went straight to lunch with ken and mellie at newly opened eatery relish. cool burgers; mine was some mexican one with guacamole. outfit: floral tieback minidress, black jersey vest, pageboy cap, thongs. popped by topshop to visit car, saw my darling licco (hugged her to death, she was on the phone heh) guess who we bump into? miss seet herself. style advisor reunion! *beams* i love this particular aspect of singapore's smallness. so much for that afternoon power nap. stopped by sanchia's for a brief (and i mean BRIEF) "hello and goodbye" in and out within 5 flat. i end up with nary an hour's rest before the calls start coming in. i don't even remember who called, just that i was semi-comatose, hence babbled some crap and hung up - acc. to a very annoyed josh later on.

managed to blackmail my darlings (cot - jol) into zouk, after fulfilling my sushi cravings - done and done. i was so lethargic.. till gen. seriously, my whole world lit up the second i saw her on that escalator. jacky said, "eh gen's here." i looked up and there she was, walking towards me - my source of energy. i just could not stop screaming and hugging her. the guys got all weirded out, they said "i don't know them" and walked away. we were still hugging whilst sitting down side by side in the sushi booth. i kept touching her, just to prove that she was real. right in front of me, in the flesh. it was so surreal.

mr wo-hong-le jacky lee called up bkf which sent us to the front of the queue (that wound round all the way into the carpark) we cut it. yeah! pity zouk was filled with such weirdos. bumped into/hugged gaurav! we left extraordinarily early, for the first time in my life i felt it was justified. zouk was CRAP. settled in tong shui cafe for supper; she shoots, she aims, she scores! i spontaneously decided on shooting peanuts into pp's shirt pocket. cue: crazy laughter. josh = bruce lee (i see it now! it's the hair) i miss this easy companionship, i love this crazy bunch to death. outfit: purple chiffon dress, black knee high boots, gold rose plate.

thursday woke up late, as expected. original plan: spend the entire day with gen. we ended up doing dinner - me gen drea owen - at the roti prata place outside drea's place. gardens, ice cream for the gang; the ATM machine ATE my card (well, it was actually my sister's, given to me by mistake) argh. so frustrating. after that, it was back to hers; promptly falling asleep in her beanbag.

friday lunch appointment at * with roy. he was super duper late. lunch became tea. i was feelin' really sexy in black high waisted shorts (my 10 min. shorts), white tank, animal print stilettos and scarlet lipstick - which truly made the look. i was on a one-woman mission to find out the truth and clear the air; things have gotten over-complicated lately, too much drama needless to say.

instead of dining with car, roy and i ended up having ayam penyet (another one of my cravings he obligingly helped fulfil). spur of the moment, we headed to zouk - just the two of us - so that he could 'mark attendance'; i watched in awe as he flashed his card and signed me in. *claps* in the members area, we sat and talked. roy was amazed, his little girl victoria is all grown up now; red lipstick, making him feel her supershaved legs, the notion of making out with hot guys after succumbing to inebriation, stuffing cash in my bra (a trick we learnt in rome, that has kinda stayed with me especially when one is lacking in pocket space). SHOCKER, for him.

after that titillating conversation, he put his arm around me and proudly proclaimed, "you have become a woman."

the rest of the night... is in a blur. bits and pieces of a puzzle that neither of us can complete. especially after downing jugs of g&t, way. too. fast. all i remember is giggling and stumbling - arms around each other - from zouk to velvet to the phuture and back (har har get it? future and back? *silly grin*) "blind leading the blind" said he. we tore up the dancefloor a la my sassy girl at velvet (initially empty until we took matters into our own hands). god i haven't had that much fun in ages. it's been awhile, i hafta say... *grins* LET'S DO IT AGAIN!

a.p.p.a.r.e.n.t.l.y, some drunk girl went up to some guy in a neon shirt, tugged on it and said, "your shirt is too bright" then calmly walked away. (how my sassy girl is that?!?) from what i recall, he didn't take offence, finding it amusing it instead *laughs* these lips are sealed; don't ask cause i'm not telling! *smirk*

saturday followed mum to settle bank stuff. I'M VERY PLEASED: the efficiency in singapore is impressive; we got through 3 banks in less than 2 hours. so happy was i that i pressed the "excellent service" button at HSBC. mum gave us 1/2 hour (est waiting time) to sneak out and grab a quick bite, verr and i gobbled down wanton noodles/char kway teow respectively (me and my insatiable cravings) and were back at HSBC in less than 15 min. next, brunch with jon flug. upon my cheery "heyyyyy jon!" he reckoned i must still be hanging over from friday night, given the 'general loopiness' in my appearance - read: dishevelled hair, aformentioned men's shirt, flipflops.

adm gathering/bbq at hk gangster's condo. apparently, everyone's been tuning into my life via facebook, asking if i'm there to study or party and inquiring about bfffs mandi and lili haha. i find it thoroughly amusing. it was good to catch up though, must be my first time attending an adm gathering since graduation.

sunday the intial plan: picnic at botanical gardens, silly boy twinset refusing to come without the other *the look* eventual outcome: picnic by the pool. i made pasta, gen, potato salad. gossip magazines. swimming in the rain. i stood still, letting the rain gently fall down on me. i felt so.. free. after a bath, more lounging around on gen's supersoft bed.

as promised, i took the tan/de silva clan out for dinner, crystal jade. funny bit: in rebuttal to my assumption that mum took her frustrations out on him (while i was away) verr said, "surprisingly, the mother didn't COME ONTO ME while you were gone." upon realization of the words that just came out of his mouth, *awkward darting of eyes* status: my family is choking with laughter.

he stumbles, "no no.. i only got paid for EXTRA SERVICES." at this point, i'm trying my best not to laugh any harder as i can feel the food rising up my throat. everyone else is just crying with mirth. mum tries to clarify it by saying, "no lah.. he was helping me. he got paid 5 cents.." god, how is THAT supposed to be helping? *laughs* justin later told me that the people at the surrounding tables were staring at us strangely, probably thinking we're crazy. and i'm not so sure that they're wrong haha.

local delights i've consumed this week
mee goreng. roti john. wanton soup. charsiew noodles. chicken rice. bite of nasi lemak. char kway teow. ayam penyet. cheese/plain prata. teh peng. milo dinosaur. teh cino. carrot cake. wanton noodles. char siew rice.

updates

#1 my project submission for style cultures is finally over. hurray. i've been walking around school in zombie fashion for two days straight, having slept at 7am and 6am respectively. i didn't even have time to wash my hair on thursday, ugh. i looked like HELL this morning, seriously. i took a glance in the mirror and i could hardly recognise my own reflection. bedhead, bloodshot eyes... *grimaces* charming.

it's done, it is done.

#2 i got keyed! yesterday, lili (and manda, in spirit) handed over the spare keys to their flat. it was such a.. moment. it's official: i am their surrogate flatmate. it's truly fantastic, the feeling of being wanted. *snickers* as it is, i come and go so often it's practically home already; plus we have dinner together almost every single day of the week. all i need is a chest of drawers or something for my stuff. their couch has my bum imprint, for shore. HAHA.

manda: youthinkingwhati'mthinking?

#3 my hair is growing! *crosses fingers* i don't want to jinx it but i actually think it's the longest it's been in years, okay a year, ever since i debuted my shoulder length bob at graduation early 2006 - cause i kept cutting/trimming/shaping it you see. day old hair makes for good texture, i've learnt. every morning all i gotta do is twist it into a messy bun (not by choice, simply circumstantial) and i'm good to go. now i can even do pigtails/braids on both sides of the head, which i do occasionally, if/when i'm feeling actcute. hah

#4 next to toasted bread with melted butter & sugar and ham & cheese sandwiches, tom yam instant noodles with luncheon meat (and egg) is the easiest thing in the world to make, and the yummiest too. fyi: that was dinner.

#5 like everything else in life, there is an art to making hot chocolate. and a crucial ingredient to boot. i'm quite sure everyone else already knows what it is, but i chanced upon this discovery only here and now (2 months ago, give or take?) *shrugs* better late than never. life will never be the same again.

and... that's it, for now. i should be catching up on those z's. i'm a little strung out from this week, so exhausted. thank god for my little afternoon nap. oh! and i saw 2 swans as i was walking back to my flat. wanted to run up and get some bread for them, but i'm a little short on bread myself and it was freeezing. the tide had come up, so they swam all the way to the railings. i swear one of them looked me straight in the eye! awww cute. said a quick goodnight to them both and left.

yawn.

in over my head

things have been a-changing lately.

friday night
dinner with pp, far east
drinks at muse with jon & gaurav - chocolate martini (diabetically sweet)
adjourned to butter, the boys - champagne, G&T, vodka lime&cranberry

fantastic night! pity i don't remember too much of it, save for selective bits like gaurav's "you're like a ping pong ball!" comment and the hugs - loads of 'em from/with loads of people, god knows who. quite unfortunately, my brain tends to automatically weed out the memory of fun-filled nights in favour of other more/less important things, like oh i don't know, the fact that sarah jessica parker's husband is matthew broderick?

(i was willing to bet my life on this, when ken and i got into a heated debate over lunch at the marmalade pantry a week or so ago - the place is SO chi chi it's unbelievable!)

i recall being all high and giggly (the works); this is what you get after weeks of weaning yourself off the late nights out and alcohol - plays merry hell with your tolerance levels. i do remember being shoved around a surprising number of times that night (my body made pliable by the effects of alcohol), giving way to gaurav's astute observation and following remark. heh.

saturday
wanton noodle lunch while watching my korean drama serial on tape
laundry - handwashing/hanging my delicates (nearly breaking my arms/back in the process) i hope i get some arm muscle definition from this.
running of errands - bought vanilla chocolate chip ice cream and cola
primary school class gathering - serious bundle of fun!

phrase(s) of the night:
"YOU LOOK SO OLD!!"
"OHMYGOD I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE STILL ALIVE!?!"

monday
mel's 21st dinner party

tuesday
jing's 21st, after work
shopping & supper with jon after after work
(not sure how i'm gonna arrange this)

wednesday
ladies night! anyone?
supper, jpoh? (sorry this is the only available slot) heh

thursday
dental appointment
more laundry?
grown up/dress-up dinner party at andrea's bachelorette pad at the far side of the world

friday
vishal's house party

saturday
heading down to mos with crazy colleagues

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind

TBC

this is gonna be one busy week; -
and it's already begun

tonight
dinner (subway) with darlings - shanee, quek
supper (thomson prata) with J

tomorrow
morning till early afternoon: shopping for nicky's stuff with uncle cyril
afternoon: home to rest and get ready
evening: dinner with my loves - gen, josh, joleen (fingers crossed)
night: zouk - jon & co. TBC

i know it's insane but already i've begun planning my outfits - yes, plural. outfit(s) - for tomorrow's respective activities. in fact, i've had them visualised in my head since early this evening, right after coming across an article on kate hudson's various looks over the years.

i was thinking free spirited meets bohemian look: long tiered skirt (emerald green), loose jersey off-the-shoulder top (preferably heather grey, but seeing as how i don't own one, something else'll have to do), thick chocolate braided belt (bring on the anteater!), flip flops (oh how i miss them dearly. i tire so easily of covered toe shoes/flats), black chinatown-aviators or brown divashades. i do not want to wear makeup.

thursday
vesak day, working on a public holiday is complete and utter madness. enough said.
night: grey's marathon - roy, jacky. TBC

friday
evening: jacky's 22nd shanghai tang meets infernal affairs theme party at a chicken rice house. i'm quoting him here. i was thinking of shaking the dust off my emerald green cheongsam for one night, what say you? this i said - partly in jest - to roy, "i'll be like maggie cheung in 'in the mood for love' with the cheongsam and all, but i'll carry a gun, like a gangster." or something along those ridiculous lines. you can roll your eyes if you want to. roy's reaction didn't stray very far from that. but he was kinder with his comments. "how silly" said he.

saturday
mel's birthday party. TBC

vicky loves. <3<3<3

guess who's feeling like miss
C-O-N-G-E-N-I-A-L-I-T-Y?

some cheerleader type singing to the tune of "mister personality, you so ugly." was humming in my head, but somehow i got the words 'popularity' 'personality' and 'congeniality' all mixed up... so there.

anyways, these are the memoirs of a busybee - oh let me gloat for awhile - this feeling'll probably last till the end of the week, where it will suitably shrivel up and die. at least it beats feeling like you have no friends and wondering where did everyone go? which, on second thought, wasn't too long ago.

saturday - mel smsed out of the blue, which resulted in a pretty impromptu meeting; teppanyaki and haagen dazs.
status: completed.

sunday - a long overdue dinner with jacky and roy (and rex); billy bombers.
status: completed.

monday - a trip to the 'designer' places of singapore, exclusively for yanping. [cue: arab str, haji lane, ann siang, asylum, venue.. etc] since almost all of them have been overtaken/bombarded by ex-designschoolers, no sweat! one tour coming right up!
status: raincheck taken, postponed indefinitely.

tuesday - due to a little mix-up of sms dates, chinchin apparently asked that we meet to eat tonight, but i thought she meant tomorrow. so dinner with the ballet girls (rachel, chinchin, xiaoxuan) soon, but not soon, ya know what i mean?
status: postponed tentatively, till friday.

wednesday - dinner with the back-in-the-homeland gen drea sarah and myself (maybe ana). was informed by the gen in the afternoon when plans to dine tonight at 7 were scratched.
status: on for now. 7pm orchard, i think.

thursday - broc's play at the arts house. sarah drea gen myself, with a complimentary pass, courtesy of broc.
status: definite. meeting at 6.30pm.

friday - dinner with the ballet girls chinchin, maybe rachel, and myself. xx is in italy :(
status: tentative. 6pm orchard.

saturday - nothing.

sunday - possible reunion with cousin kenny and mel (and G, if he accepts).
status: tentative. no time selected yet.

note: sigh. i really miss the child. i feel like such a teenager slash romeo&juliet-esque, being banned from seeing own boyfriend and all.

the worse part is how i'm actually LISTENING. where was all this obedience during my angsty teenage years? well, it's POSSIBLE that this newfound obedience stems from the fact that i feel guilty, and that the mother MAY actually have a point.

i hate to admit it, but i am feeling a sense of mild satisfaction from reading through the prospectus for the colleges in UK and FIT and practising piano. things i know i should be doing.

AHHHHHH. i want to be in my boyfriend's musso, 'gallavanting' around town with 6 other cars - jerome calista shihan stacie kevin dee imran yan damien joy sascha.. etc.

i felt like part of the mafia, what with the entourage and all. hee

ah, the good old days.

updates!

latest update:

today, aunty amelia from sweden (in town to visit) rang me up while out shopping with mummy. guess what for? my present! this must be some joint-conspiracy thing, but they're not exactly being very subtle about it.

case 1: sarah asks me to keep saturday afternoon free so she can plan something for me, kinda like a 'surprise' party thing/gathering but not, i guess. [well, she did ask me if i had anything planned yet and the answer was a negative, no.]

case 2: [cont'd from above] aunty amelia asks me what my favourite colour is. i say pink. she goes,"too bad, there isn't any pink. choose another colour!" then she mutters (more to herself than to me) ,"aiyah, what the hell. i'm just going to get you something i think you will like, and not listen to your mummy anymore. bye!"

case 3: gen messages me on msn asking if i'm doing anything for my birthday, i said no and that she should check with sarah, having given herself the supposed planner title.

case 4: andrea messages me on msn, apologising for not being able to be here for my birthday.

it's just supremely sweet that they actually remembered, because like i said, it's usually my job to remind everyone to stay in the same country and coordinate schedules, if not i'm sure no one would give a beep.

to first times and farewells.

at long last, i get to indulge myself in one of my favourite favourite things; snuggled in bed, tucked in my comforter, soft pillows supporting my back, bolster at my side - typing away merrily at my laptop. be it blogging or concocting nonsensical emails to my friends,
i don't care.

i finally have time.

no one has any idea what that means, how much it means. except probably my ADM friends.

to constantly have to rush and sew like mad people, covered from head to toe in loose thread, sewing machines rrrrrr-ing away like motorbike engines being revved, eating in the canteen unaware of the measuring tape hanging around our necks. sigh. to be stuck in limbo; caught between panicking and crying at 3am or giving up and sleeping.

any-way. a hah! now i know what it means when they say, err, actually i forgot what they said. something about how your true friends will show themselves in times of dire need: although this isn't exactly a particularly needy time of mine. if you haven't been updated, this is the lowdown.

*in chinese, it would be 'chang wen shuo duan', which in direct translation would sorta mean 'long story cut short'.

so, my eyes were reddish and had a little yellowish discharge (i know i've repeated this a billion and one times over the past few days, bear with me)

discharge mummy, NOT PUS!
pus just sounds gross.

- me being a busybody poked around and disturbed brrrnest on msn about his nick
- turns out some red eye virus has been passing round school and s'pore
- we went to see dr chia/killing two birds with one stone
- checked my eyes and got a prescription for new specs

the outcome: it was a mother and doctor gang up against 'rebellious teenage girl who ignores her mother's fine advice and has a vanity issue, WHICH IS NORMAL BECAUSE ALL TEENAGE GIRLS WANT TO LOOK NICE, it would be abnormal if i didn't' -- or so he said.

you see, nobody listens to me. i felt like i was talking to the wall and the wall was ignoring me but at the same time accusing me of being vain (yet normal) and defiant (yet perfectly normal as all teenagers ignore their mothers) and ignorant (yet, and i repeat NORMAL) to wear contact lenses even though she has sensitive eyes. helluva wall.

my eyes had developed an allergy to contact lenses 90%, and a slight infection 10%. resulting in my laying off lenses for a while, and wearing glasses to school for the first time in my three years in design.

i was reluctant, but not unwilling. in the past, vanity would've kept me from doing so - it was my worst nightmare to have to reveal my true self to the public - but i'd like to think that with age comes maturity, and maturity says that it doesn't matter what you look like, because you're still the same person underneath those outdated slanted metal frames that got lost in my bed the other day, and are now 'sengeh/beng koh'.

some people were very kind, asking about my eyes and all. thanks :) i've been sick for the past week or so, sore throat, fever, cough, you name it. and minutes after my mother warned me not to scratch myself on the rusty mannequin, that's just what i did. i got a superficial cut on my leg from the mannequin stand bottom.

more drama ensued.

so i told him what had happened, and thanked him once again. i had to go make new glasses. they're purple plastic frames. i pray i don't get the new specs syndrome. you know, because when you go and make new specs, you take off yours, put on the frame and you're looking into a blurred mirror image of yourself. what is the point, i ask? you can barely see where your eyes are, let alone how 'chic' you look in the new ones.

then i was relating my rubbish worries to brrrnest about how i might end up being mistaken as one of those VSC blackplasticframe wearing dudes. hah.

but as brrrnest said, and i quote, "haha okay. so you're gonna have the geeky emo chick look. it's better than red eyes!"

couldn't have said it better myself.

for the past three days i've been trudging to school, slanted specs notwithstanding- to the open eyed, mouths agape reception from my classmates. most of them had no idea i even had a degree, well neither did ernest, he confessed. aha. i was a bonafide nerd/geek. i had to field comments like 'eh you wear specs ah?' 'wah so thick' 'why so thick ah?' 'i can't get used to you like this' 'how many degrees?' 'haha you look so intellectual' 'you look like a nerd'

most of them relatively normal questions except for the mean ones from ah nan and jesse bebe, which i think were a joke haha. we were pigging out at chomp chomp when they asked me if i was going to wear my specs to liquid room. i countered with, "and what if i did?" they replied, "then we don't know you." GASP.

it was sad huh. sitting in the pub with lijing & co. i scrolled through my handphone gallery, looking at the images in a bid to remind myself that i wasn't ugly. it sure felt that way :(

i felt so unglam in school, looking at all the lithe young things running around in school aka freshmen in all their flower in their hair coordinated glitter shirt tweed blazer wearing pointy toed stiletto long peasant skirt newsboy cap multistrand bead parades.

i promised them a total and complete transformation the night after. though upon receiving my new purple specs, i had the urge to go clubbing with them on! yeah, they're THAT funky. but i was still a little dizzy, so i went with the contacts. i have to admit, it might sound vain, but it was nice to see my familiar face again. even sharon said i looked fresh, finally.

oh well, it was fun. it would've been better had he been there. looking at all the other couples around me, i felt envious. i just wanted to hold him and dance with him, my classmates all were all clambering to meet him. hah. but i know he probably had more fun with his friends.

i felt like i knew everyone there. from juniors to ex schoolmates, to current schoolmates, to friends' friends, to my sister and her friends, to jacky and his friends, to a judge on the panel, to all round familiar faces. even my sister's best friends (they're twins) elder sister's boyfriend, who was Dj Ko Flow. that was nice. supper afterwards was even nicer, it was simply hilarious. it was the first time in our lives that we clubbed together (my sister & i), the first time i hung out with her friends and the first time since she came back from UK that we spent time together.

she's leaving today.

i don't like the word 'cheers'. it sounds pretentious to me. i'll sub it with 'yam seng', for obvious reasons. YS to first times and farewells. to my dear sister & friend, we'll meet again.
