after my shift ended, off i was! - like a speeding bullet - to meet up with royboytoy (by reputation not by name. heh) and proceed on to the exclusive studio privé spring/summer 07 runway show, to bear witness as 7 talented young designers launched their debut collections, under the watchful guidance/eye of jonathan seow, woods & woods.
i know 2 of the designers personally - one being a classmate from adm, tp design and the other a fellow intern from my brief stint at bazaar - and shall extend my congrats once again for all the hard work not forgetting sweatbloodandtears (this, i know for a fact) put into producing their collections. it must've been a struggle from start to finish. i sincerely anticipate the arrival of the next collection sometime in august, you said?
it was great bumping into you both at the afterparty/asylum event at velvet later that night; jubilant faces, radiant with joy - a sight i never grow tired of :)
attending the show was a last-minute decision, but ultimately i'm glad i went. despite the initial atmosphere being one of pretentiousness and frosty looks cast around the exhibition space by fashion industry people 'up there' - i felt ridiculously out of place, like some imposter amongst genuine designer goods - till i spotted a few familiar faces from the bazaar team.
that was nice; catching up with alli and nicky, who by the way was looking extremely good in an off-the-shoulder (i think) black top. a designer came to mind upon noticing the ornamental beading, unfortch, the tip-of-the-tongue-phenomenon seems to have caught up with me. tsk.
after all the niceties were done with, we strolled to zouk for the asylum party and a bite. both roy and myself were on the guestlist but i rang jobi (whilst walking over) about bringing serene and jerry in, "no problemo." said she. miss doorbitch-for-the-night was in high spirits; looking unsurprisingly glam in my purple goddess dress and black tights. very chic. after getting stamped, we slipped out for roti prata across the road (risking our lives time and time again. sheesh. the things we do for food)
"boss, can you give me some sugar?"
jacky joined the gang. back to velvet. jobi came to pick us up from the reception/entrance, balancing a flute of champagne rather precariously in one hand - a precariousness that only seemed to increase as the night wore on. funnily so (i have to control my laughter at the memory) - and bringing us back to her table.
it was an experienece (not a particularly memorable one), an eye-opener. vastly different from the phutute i've grown accustomed to. more grown up, filled with 'adults' and working people in working clothes, for lack of a better description. no one really danced. it centered around standing about and socialising/networking. urgh. but i was too busy eyeing the carpeted walls in the hallway, private little corners and couches to really notice. i was practically giddy with excitement at exploring this new little playground. everyone was laughing at my enthusiasm. easy for them to say beentheredonethat, all except me *pout*
the mini photo exhibition (the white box) in the middle of velvet was a cute idea. the most fun i had the entire night took place within that tiny crammed space. cue: noisy crazy chaotic photo-taking session on roy's 3D cam, despite the curious stares from... erm everybody else? haha
jobina tan sirong, you were absolutely hilarious. call me if/when you see this, and i'll gladly give you a blow-by-blow account of everything you said and did last night. hahaha. you want to hear this. believe me. hahaha.
