one night in london part 2

one night in london continued...

hours later, after the 3 of us girls had primped and preened to perfection - which is quite a feat, considering the size of our communal bathroom - kristie virginia and myself left the apartment and off we were! to meet up with alison (my sister's roommate) and then head straight for PANGAEA!

the night was lovely, and delightfully cold - a pleasant change from the insane heat in the day. luckily all of us were wearing outerwear; mine was a tailored white jacket, my sister was wearing a shrug in shades of brown yellow & green, kristie had a greyish black piece, i think.

see, when do i EVER get to wear a coat in singapore?

i could sense the excitement in the air. all of us dressed up ready to party, mad with glee at just the thought of being out and about together for the first time since we arrived in london, we started walking arm in arm at a brisk pace, fueled on by our sudden burst of energy. we were approaching the nearby pub when some guy said loudly "hello singapore!"

we turned back in wonderment simultaneously. just how did this guy know where we were from? were we THAT obvious? did we have 'from singapore' stamped on our faces?

oh well, guess we'll never know. it's just one of those things..

we eventually got over our initial shock and continued walking quickly towards the tube. as we passed the pub, we started hearing "sayonara!" and "ling chang" and random nonsense words yelled out by some guys seated outside. don't get me wrong, there was not a hint of hostility in their tone, when we glanced their way, they were smiling laughing whistling waving etc.

i was like,"WHAT?!? sayonara is JAPANESE!" and "what the heck is ling chang?!?!" we burst out in a fit of mad giggles and it was all we could do not to crack up and die there and then.

we met up with alison, then proceeded to pangaea. i honestly feel that no matter what i say, it won't do the place justice so i shall let the the following do the job.

1. PANGAEA

Pangaea has got to be one of the hottest if not the hottest nightclub in the London party circuit! Located in the heart of Mayfair, the venue offers a glamorous & exotic experience. It's sexy and sultry with sensual prints adorning the walls & flickering candles illuminating animal skulls & spears.

Go on any one of its many nights and it will never fail to impress you. With the best DJ's in town playing mix of house, disco, rock and pop and the consistent presence of London's most beautiful socialites, Pangaea provides an unbeatable night out.

To top it off, with the new presence of Sumosan restaurant at the venue, an eclectic menu of both authentic & modern Japanese dishes is available. Sushi, sashimi & 'Japanese tapas' are served alongside a selection of flavored cocktails.

Pangaea is available for private functions daytime & evenings seven days a week.

ooh, the animal print couches and rugs were just so luxurious. i've never been so impressed by a club - at the sheer beauty of its interior design - before. i was shell-shocked, everything was absolutely gorgeous. it felt somewhat tribal-esque and african-influenced.

we found a comfortable place right smack in the middle of the dancefloor [where all the action is, or is supposed to be] - if you can call it that - then we ordered our first round of drinks. mojito for my sis, cosmo for myself.

looking around, there was live accompaniment; drums and a saxophone. the music was fabulous and it was already getting us psyched up and rearing to get our groove on. it was still pretty empty but soon we dragged ourselves off our butts and started dancing wayy before anyone else did. our theory is that we motivated everyone else to start dancing as well. heh

"I LOVE THIS SONG!!" - me.

alison asked,"what's the title of the song?" i shrugged and yelled,"I HAVE NO IDEA!" then grinned madly back. later on, i did my research and found out that it was cassie's 'me and you'. seconds later, a familiar song came on. my sister and alison were placing bets on whether it was the original 'maneater'. virg was right, it was. seconds passed, then we heard the dj do the"Zzz Zzz" sound on the turntable and it switched to nelly furtado's version.

i went crazy! hands waving around in the air, hair flinging about like i just don't care. i've been wanting to dance to this song ever since i saw it on mtv, i even had visions of myself flinging my hair and arms around with wild abandon - which i did :) YAY.

Maneater, make you work hard
Make you spend hard
Make you want all, of her love
She's a maneater
make you buy cars
make you cut cards
make you fall real hard in love
She's a Maneater, make you work hard

i still prefer my version:
oh, oh no she's a maneater make you work hard make you sweat hard make you want all

much later on, even after all the action had died down, i still had the imaginary sounds of 'maneater' and 'me and you' playing in my head. there i was, in the middle of the empty street, dancing/bopping away to the mini-disco up there (in my head).

random bits:
while making a toast of champagne, my sister yelled out,"to sax!" and by that she meant to the 'saxophone' player (who had been dancing with us up on the couch earlier) but it was misinterpreted as "to sex!" and continued to be purposely misinterpreted for the remainder of the night. hee.

oh i forgot to mention the attendance of jon pflug, vishal and bird; they met up with us in the club. bird - that's her nickname, don't ask - is studying in london. jon is friends with my sister's friends and also knows us from piano class. vishal is jon's friend, they're both here to judge an international debating competition.

at one point, jon picked up my tiny sister and put her up on the table and subsequently tried to do the same with me, citing the need for both sisters to be together (he said she looked lonely alone up there), i flat-out refused. i was positive the table would either break apart into splinters or just collapse from our combined weight.

vishal and bird each tried to convince the dj to play R&B when he was playing other kinds of music, and by the time it was my turn, he sounded thoroughly annoyed. i can't even remember what he said but he confirmed that he was gonna get to it.

lastly, we grabbed our purses put on our coats left the club and entered the cold night air. we walked from where we were to idon'tknowwhere in chinatown (i know this because that's the only place you find chinese food). i shared a plate of charsiewnoodles with my sister and she gulped down her pork dumplings greedily. haha.

it was light outside - by the time we left the restaurant.

after our lovely supper of chinese food and hot tea to warm our stomachs, we went our separate ways and took a cab back to our apartment.

the perfect end to a perfect night.
