the swing.

when you step into the playground, what's the first thing you head for? i skip the merry go round, the monkey bars, the slides and the rocking animals- i head straight for the swing.

there's just something about the swing. i'm the queen of swinging :) during discovery camp in primary school, we'd come extra early to compete in the playground- to see who could swing the highest. isn't that insane? we'd huff and puff and scrape the soles of our maryjanes desperately against the stone and sand just to give ourselves that extra swing. class vs. class. girl vs. girl. boy vs. boy. girl vs. boy. graceful landings vs. painful falls.

there's something thrilling, dangerous even, about swinging. the higher you go, the sicker you feel. you can feel the breeze blowing so cold against your skin. your hands are getting clammier and threatens to loosen your hold on the metal chains. yet, you hold on for dear life. because you know the fate that awaits the second you even THINK of letting go.

then it happens.

you reach your peak. the highest you can go without hitting a tree or doing a full 360.

in your head, the thoughts run amok. you wonder if you can actually go all the way. what if you fall? what if you die? what if you land in the tree branches? and then die?

but all this time you're contemplating your fate, you're on top of the world. how does it feel? it feels great. you wanna stay up there forever. never come down.

up there, with your head in the clouds; you gotta be careful. for you might start forming foolish notions. notions of never coming back down to earth. notions of being on top of the world forever. notions of actually doing a 360.

but that's just what they are, notions.

i know that eventually, i'll come down. when my stomach growls, i'll come down. if i swing too high, i'll come down. if i let go, i'll come down. (dead or alive) if i get tired, i'll come down.

for the past few days, i've been in a park on a swing of sorts.

i finally came down.

not too gracefully though, but i came down. and i don't intend on going back up anytime soon.

the slide is much safer than the swing, don't you think? at least i know i'll always land back on my feet.
