swindled

1. Swindled

It was almost like an illusion.
One moment, he was walking right by her side
The next- gone like the feelings they had shared.
Everything she thought she felt
Were naught but lies.

One cold Monday morning,
Reality struck
Like a slap to her face-
She had been cheated and played for a fool
In his sick little mind game.

The sweet words of endearment
That once brought her joy
Now came back to taunt her relentlessly.

Coldness crept in
Loneliness, hand in hand.
On the surface,
She smiled. She laughed.
But she spent the nights crying herself to sleep.
Tears became her newfound confidante.
Her mind filled with questions
The answers, she could not find.
His casual dismissal of her emotions
Only served to twist the knife.

The pain unbearable,
Impossible to forget.
The trust, lost
Never to be replaced.

Hurt came and went,
Anger followed suit.
Numbness came along soon enough.
It was her own little protective wall.
She didn't see him anymore.
She looked right through him.
She felt nothing.
He was a distant memory.
An old friend she had long left behind.
He held no place in her future.
